Poor Customer Service

Representatives will tell us that a technician will be out between 12-2, and they show up around 5. This has occurred on multiple occasions. We have had an internet line above the ground for over a year now with no one coming out to put it in the ground. We have been told that the reason out internet is "slow" is because of the length of our line which was supposed to be shortened. But of course this was not fixed.

User's recommendation: Look for alternative companies.

Shentel Took My Modem and Charged Me For A New One!

I called Shentel tech support because my internet connection kept dropping. They said theyd need to send a person to my home to check it out. The tech at my house said he couldnt find a problem with anything, but hed swap out the modem to see if that would help. I still had connection issues for at least two weeks after that and they still happen intermittently. A month later, I get charged for the new modem. The tech didnt say anything about being charged a fee and took my old modem (which I had already paid for) with him when he left. Shentel customer service wouldnt reverse the charge and wouldnt return my old modem that was my property.

SHARE INFORMATION

Contacted Shentel about installing high speed internet to my home back in March 2020. Was told it would have to be run from 2 houses down and would cost me $800 to build the line. As the covid -19 pandemic unfolded I became uncertain about my job security, so I asked if I could wait awhile before I proceeded and was told it was no problem. I called back Monday and was told that my cost to build was only valid for 60 days and a new service ability would have to be done. Today I found out that the price has now doubled to $1600. This is clearly a case of price gouging by a company that knows that millions of kids will be attending online schooling and will be dependent on their services.

Update on credit issue

After this posted credit was applied to my next 3 bills. No other issues. This was the only time I have had an issue with This company and completely due to poor customer service from the person I spoke with.

Unsatisfactory customer service calling in main line

Received a letter thanking me for continuing to be a good customer for several years(30 to be exact) with a $15.00 credit to be applied to my account over next 3 months. You were provided a code and instructions to have this offer applied to your account which I did and had a confirmation it had been applied so I shredded the letter when completed . Received my bill and it was not credited so I called customer service which was a complete waste of my time. The young lady wanted to argue that I had to call in and speak with them in order to receive the credit but I was positive the instructions provided were different. I was very disappointed that after all the years I have stayed with local cable and paid high cable fees on time every month that she could not have simply apologized and offered to fix my account. Most companies have something in place with CS to correct their error for clients. She wanted me to continue to look for a letter which I repeatedly told her was shredded and call her back. To say the least I am very disappointed with this level of service and am seriously considering going the way of my neighbors and moving to a different carrier in the near future!! As an additional thought why would Shentel not automatically apply the monthly credit to accounts as a reward and notify clients it had been applied.

Interruption in Service

interruption in service has been going on for me for the last 6 months +. I have contacted them at least 6 times and nothing is done. If they can reset my TV from there office Why does the problem continue. Mean while the monthly bill keeps coming in. I think it's time Shentel is relieved of there problem.

The first time we had this service was 15 megs. Downloading a game on Steam was 4-6 megs peak, canceled. Second time around with their new package of 50 megs, and unlimited, I STILL get 6 mbps peak downloading from Steam. I play League of Legends sometimes, and I get 39-43 MS ping rate that will sometimes spike to 60 ms ping rate! I used to live in Maryland and had Comcast on an older PC back in 2004. When I started playing League of Legends, my ping rate would be around 10-24 ms ping. My PC is custom built in 2014, and there is no reason I should be getting worse numbers with a better PC! I swear they bottle neck people's service.

Always cut out, my kids play like Xbox and ps4 and their complaining about lag and strict nat types and they tell you to call other people to get that fixed and it has to do with their own internet.. the company is completely a joke and no where near worth what they tell you.. they tell you that you get what you pay for and that’s defiantly not the case

Won’t service my address

My house sits back from the road (same distance as my next door neighbor) but my house is too far back from the road for service.....2 years ago when we called they could do it for $700 ....now even that ridiculousness isn’t offered

Worst customer service and service I have ever had in my life

The cable constantly kicks off you never get to watch a whole movie without it kicking off saying your service is interrupted you have to turn the tv an box back off then back on to get the service to come in they tv its self is terrible the screen is all stretched out no matter what setting you put your tv settings on theres no way to know what your watching unless you go to the guide chsnnel that constantly kicks off telling you the services is interrupted it doesnt tell you anything very few stations it literally suckes and the customer service is terrible their employee makes a mistake and u pay for it sad is all i can say good luck i wouldnt reccomend then to anyone

Good but extremely expensive

I pay 50$ for 60 megabytes for a year after that year the price jumps to 130$. The other local companies offer 150 megabytes for around 130$ or less. Which, of course aren't available to me. The other two companies Cox and Comcast don't have a data cap either. MONOPOLY

Extremely slow overpriced ***

The internet deal my girlfriend and I have is extremely slow. Calling in about it does no good, they never actually fix anything. Guess they don't need to fix it considering they provide to majority of the rest of the townhome complex. Can't wait to move and not deal with them anymore

Hard Data Cap on Home Internet

I have had Shentel's Home DSL service for years. I was paying $65/ish a month for 10Mb speed and UNLIMITED data usage. This month they rolled out their new plans. They now have a hard data cap of 500GB for 10Mb speed at $59/month. If you want Unlimited data it is an extra $30/month. Needless to say their horribly slow technology would now cost me an additional $25 a month to maintain my previous standard. I thought that the cost of technology reduces over time, obviously it doesn't have to as long as you have a regional monopoly on that technology.
